Everyone knows that eating healthy food goes hand in hand with a good exercise routine when it comes to losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle.
We hear this day in and day out from our family, our doctor, and even on television from Dr. Oz and others.
The problem is we know this, but how are we supposed to take 30 minutes or an hour out of our busy schedule 3 times a day to prepare a healthy meal?
The solution – Diet To Go, one of the best diet food delivery programs available today.
What Is Diet To Go
Diet To Go was founded in 1991 and is a business that makes and delivers fresh, chef quality diet meals across the country. The food is prepared in two separate kitchens located in California and Virginia then flash frozen to preserve taste and freshness before being shipped to your door.
Both kitchens are inspected daily by the USDA and they follow health guidelines of the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association.
Even though you may have never heard of them, Diet To Go was the first company in the United States to offer home delivery of fresh diet meal programs.
About the program
When first setting up your home delivery program with Diet To Go, you will be asked a series of questions designed to guide you through your meal plan selection.
You will have the option of a traditional low fat meal plan, a vegetarian plan, or a low carb option.
You will then be asked if you are getting a plan for a male or female. This is important due to the different calorie needs of men and women.
The next questions is focused on how many days you want the meal plan to cover. Most people are happy with getting a plan for 5 days (average work week) and then taking the time to cook meals on their weekend, but there is a 7 day per week plan available.
Finally, you will be asked if you want 3 meals (breakfast included) per day, or if you want only 2 meals. I find this option to be very helpful since I prepare and drink a meal replacement breakfast shake every day.
Once you get your plan set up, you will then have the option to select which types of meals you want included in your plan. If you don’t like Italian food, you can simply select not to have any Italian dishes included in your plan.
It is good to note that you can change your selections at any time with no additional fees. I found this feature very appealing as I like variety when it comes to my food.
After all selections have been made, there is nothing else for you to do. Your first week’s meal delivery should arrive within the next 3 days with full instructions on how to prepare each meal.
One major benefit of using the Diet To Go meal delivery program is that there are NO CONTRACTS or commitment fees. If at any time you wish to pause or cancel your service, you can do so without paying a single cent.
How It Stacks Up
As you can see in the chart above, Diet To Go is at the top of the major competitors in today’s market. They were the first company to offer this type of service, and they are still one of the best diet food delivery programs available.
It is important to note that the costs in the table above are based on a full one week 3 meal plan from each competitor. This is a true apples to apples comparison.
This chart clearly shows how much effort Diet To Go has put in to creating a long lasting, quality service, and how they are willing to stand behind their product.
Surprisingly, there aren’t many home delivery diet programs out there. There are a few, but when I started researching this post I honestly expected there to be hundreds due to the busy nature of the world we live in today.
I am sure that there will be many more popping up as the trend of eating healthier grows, but when this happens, it will be good to know that there was a company performing this service long before any one else decided it was a profitable market to enter.
Cost In General
I briefly covered how Diet To Go stacks up to other meal delivery programs, but what I intentionally left out above is the cost of the program versus preparing your own meals at home.
I did this because I think this is a very important and separate factor to consider.
I am working under the assumption that if you have the time to prepare your own meals at home, then you probably are not still reading this post, but if that isn’t the case then thank you for reading this far!
If you have the time to do so, preparing your own healthy meals at home is by far the better option for cost and freshness. Many studies have shown that you can create a well-balanced, nutritional meal for approximately $4 per day with current market prices.
For those of us who don’t always have the extra 30 minutes to an hour it takes to prepare a healthy meal 3 times a day, our options are pretty limited.
You can choose to get something from a fast food or sit down restaurant, and consume food that is very unhealthy for you. By electing this option you can expect to spend between $10 – $25 per meal and get a lot of processed food and excess sugar included in your meal.
You could also choose to just skip a meal which is even worse.
You will save the money by skipping a meal, but by doing this you are throwing your metabolism into hibernation.
If your body senses that you have stopped taking in nutrients it automatically slows your metabolism in order to not burn calories needed for necessary bodily energy consumption.
You could also find yourself eating a bigger portion than you should at the next meal to make up for the hunger you have caused by skipping a meal.
Or even worse, you may start hitting up the vending machine for unhealthy snacks!
I hope you see where I am going with this. It is always important to eat a healthy meal, even when you are strapped for time. If you know that you are too busy to prepare healthy meals throughout your work week, then you should take the time to plan ahead or invest in a healthy meal delivery program.
Take care of your body, and your body will take care of you!
I hope I have given some good information on how you can use a meal delivery program to keep you on track for living a healthy lifestyle, and I would love to hear from you with any comments or questions!
Cheers to your health!
